So here is the question of the day that Kyle and I are still in a debate about:
"What temperature does it have to be in Texas to warrant turning on your heater for the first time?"
Last night before going to bed Kyle wanted to turn on the heater. Being from Ohio myself and since Kyle lived in Ohio for 3 years while in law school, I was surprised to hear this statement. I told him that we could cover up and we would be fine (Kyle usually just has a sheet on him, so now it is probably time for sheet & blanket).
Today we woke up to temperatures in the low 50s. This is the coldest it has been since we have moved, so I can admit that I was cold, but this is nothing from what we have been used to. The weather people down here make a big deal about the "cold front" that came through. I'm not kidding when I say that people were wearing winter coats walking into work at the hospital today....and it was only in the 50s!
So now Kyle tried to again turn on the heater tonight in our apartment. He is sitting in shorts and a t-shirt. Wouldn't it be better to put on some warmer clothes first?
Just thought I would share some thoughts on this issue. Take care! Am trying to get back to blogging, but am caught up studying for the CDE (certified diabetes educator) exam this coming Saturday. Wish me luck!

We don't turn our heater on unless our house is in the low 60's. Pre-Brody...we always kept our house at 64 degrees in the winter (yes...I wore lots of fleece). Now we try to keep Brody's room around 70 degrees. We have a (very safe) space heater for his room so that it'll stay warm and we don't have to heat the rest of the house as much. We always try to hold out as long as possible before turning on the heat (or a/c)! Tell Kyle to put on more clothes!!! lol I have a feeling that his house growing up was warm (maybe b/c Paula's always cold?!?) so you may be fighting a losing battle!
Just to let you know we have turned on our heater this week! It is only set to 73 but it gets way too cold in the mornings and at night! I think eveyone is ready to break out their Fall wardrobe- including me!!!

Good luck on the exam!!
I think I would turn on the heat when it gets into the 50's at night, just in case it gets cold enough in the house to need the heat. But I would also say to wear warmer clothes at that point also. Here in the great north we got our first dusting of snow this week when we got up one morning!
Suzy Kyle :)
I would say when it doesn't get above 60 degrees all day long outside and it is cloudy, then it's time in Texas to turn on the heater. Or if little Pepper is shaking or Susie is cold.
grandpa Herd says he.likes the house to be about 75. As for me, i turned the heat on when the weatherman predicts 50 degees or below.
Now about Kyle, i remember that he use to keep his apartment in Little Rock absolutely freezing.
I say the heat comes on when there is ice forming on the inside of the wall. Our first Christmas it was 12 below and we were afraid our waterbed was going to be one big block of ice...24 years later we turn the heat on sooner!! If Texans are so hearty...they seem a little wimpy about cool temperatures!!
This is great info to know.
