Today I had my first experience in a Dallas traffic jam on my way to work. We are staying at Kyle's parents house for a few days this week while they are gone at a wedding in California. So I am taking a different route to work.
In Arlington there are several ways to go, but I decided to go with I-3o. Well, let's just say that Paula (my mother-in-law) told me it takes her 35 minutes to get to Parkland hospital from their house. (Yeah, right...she must be flying!) UT is right by Parkland, so I thought I would allow 45 minutes. To make a long story short, I got into construction & an accident. I sat in my car on I-30 for 1.5 hours, had to pee (due to my coffee that I drink on the way to work), spotted a gas station from the highway after I had been sitting that long, got off the highway for an emergency potty break. While at the gas station I looked at my Dallas map in my car & realized that the road the gas station was on would lead me to I-35. (I'm also not good at navigating maps, so this was a big deal for me).
I ended up making it to work in 2 hours!
Thankfully my commute home only took 45 minutes. I wonder what route I will take tomorrow...
So this is my adventure on the way to work today. I know that you city folk are probably laughing at me. It's fine to find humor in my experience. Hopefully someday I will look back at this and laugh too.
At the present time I have concluded that if we do end up living in Arlington someday, I will need to find a route to work that doesn't drive me crazy (if such a thing exists). :)

I feel your pain! I remember the first job I had in Chicago was only about 12 miles from my apt., but it would still take me 45 minutes to get there. I hope it gets better for you!

I used my navigation system in my car to find the best route to work (29 miles) without even touching a highway! It took me about 3 weeks of experimenting but now I love the 45 minute drive across the metroplex when I have to do it.
Patience, patience, patience!
